Brandon Maxwell talks Lady Gaga with Fashionista

In a recent interview with Fashionista, Brandon Maxwell, Lady Gaga’s stylist, talked about the singers new elegant style and different fashion looks. Read below!

Lady Gaga has been dressing much more elegantly recently. How and why did that come about?

She’s pretty in charge of everything she does. I’ve worked with a lot of other people and she definitely is one of those people who, from writing the music down to deciding what she wears during the day, everything is her vision. She had a jazz album out this year and obviously that informed a lot of the aesthetic, and you get older and you evolve and things change and your style changes, just like any PERSON does as you get older. With the album coming out and her singing jazz, it just made more sense to do looks that were in line with the icons of the past, the great jazz legends, and do that in her own way. She’s very, very naturally beautiful and very regal, so it felt really natural for me to dress her like that.

Lady Gaga Graces The Cover of The Hollywood Reporter

At THR, the staff is well-acquainted with things happening last-minute. But the occasion of the cover shoot for this year’s 25 Most Powerful Stylists required more scrambling than usual. On March 4, style editor Carol McColgin, who produced and edited the package, got word that Lady Gaga had agreed to be photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in Paris.

McColgin hopped a flight the next day: “All I knew was that Gaga and Lagerfeld were a go for Saturday the 7th, but we didn’t know where or when. Which sounds crazy, but not at THR. I was so jet-lagged that I wore trainers to the shoot, which turned out to be at Coco Chanel’s APARTMENT. Fashion sacrilege, yes, but wasn’t Coco all about liberation?”

We don’t make a move today without Karl. That’s the way I am with Tony [Bennett] on the stage — he is the star of the show because he is the legend, and it’s the same with Karl.

Gaga’s suggestion for champagne at the shoot — which included a photograph of her in the same Chanel dress worn by Cindy Crawford in Peter Lindbergh’s 1991 “Wild at Heart” Vogue feature — was spot-on.

Being on Coco’s couch and having champagne in her APARTMENT — it should always be a moment that we remember. So we are not just creating fashion as a look but an entire experience. It’s our life. It’s the reason I do it every day.

Gaga has gone lady without sacrificing her theatrical flair. Her white Azzedine Alaia gown with softer hair and makeup set off her operatic chops for the Oscars’ Sound of Music tribute, which ranked No. 1 for social media during the show, with interactions among 214,000 people per minute globally. Not that Maxwell — who met Gaga through her former stylist Nicola Formachetti and has been working with her for six years — was among them:

I watched maybe 20 seconds on the Oscars, he says.

He gets too nervous that my tits are going to fall out, so he doesn’t watch. So many people want to be more edgy and darker and avant-garde. But for me, it’s more interesting to celebrate being classic, Lady Gaga adds.

Maxwell, also a designer, created Gaga’s wardrobe for her Cheek to Cheek tour with Tony Bennett and her plunging silver Grammys gown. “It was sexy, but the fabric was so interesting,” says Gaga.

Ryan Murphy Guarantees: Gaga’s Role on AHS Will Shock You

Fans were shocked last month when Gaga released the news that she would be checking intoAmerican Horror Story: HOTEL as the new series LEAD, but Murphy revealed there’s a specific reason the news was not leaked beforehand.

It was just something that she did very, very privately. It was sort of a creative investigation. My favorite thing in the world would be when I would, of the blue, get a call from her and they’d say, ‘Hold for Gaga’.

But Murphy is not worried about Gaga stepping into the AHS spotlight now that Jessica is officially done.

Well, I haven’t seen her [acting] yet. But she studied acting and I think in many ways that’s what she wanted to do first. I think she’s been looking for some outlet to really dig in there and create a character. I guarantee the role will shock people. What’s she’s playing.

It has just been announced that Lady Gaga will be taking part in Season 5 of American Horror Story: HOTEL! “American Horror Story” was renewed for a fifth go-around in October 2014 after installment four,”Freak Show,” set a ratings record for the network.

Lady Gaga is set to be a series regular in the show!

American Horror Story: HOTEL premieres in October on FX.

At Saturday’s Family Equality Council GALA in Beverly Hills, Sarah Paulson let it slip that she almost let something else slip: the big news that Lady Gaga will be starring in next season’s American Horror Story. Why? Because it’s so cool:

“I think nothing in the world could be more exciting. Really … it’s Lady Fucking Gaga! I mean, come on. It’s amazing.”

Sarah Paulson also revealed that she knew Lady Gaga would be joining the cast: “I had a bit of an inkling, because the man told me, but I kept it a secret. I finally said to him the other day, ‘If you don’t announce this soon, I’m going to bust. I’m going to say something!’ And he was like, ‘You can’t.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to. So get on it.’ And then they have. And it was all because I made them. Not really.” But can she spill the beans on whether she’ll be on the show next season? That, apparently, is undecided, as she mentioned onstage after the AHS teaser played: “I just feel like letting Ryan know that I am available, if he wants me.”
